Published in February 2022 alongside Koseki's solo exhibition Forest of Misty Vision – Lake Shirakawa - at Fujifilm Photo Salon in Roppongi, Tokyo, the book is his first published photobook. While the exhibition provided the initial structure for the work, the book reinterprets the images as a more isolated and unreal world, bringing together moments in which mist, water, forest, and light seem to dissolve into one another. As the snow melts, trees begin to bud and emerge through the mist, their reflections appearing on the surface of the snowmelt-fed lake. In these moments, a world seems to exist somewhere between reality and unreality. Surrounded by mountains including the Iide mountain range, Iide Town receives several meters of snow during winter. In spring, meltwater flows into Lake Shirakawa from the surrounding rivers, temporarily submerging the forest. For about a month, the submerged trees appear above the water, their forms changing with the seasons. In the early morning, mist settles over the lake, while the surface shifts from pale blue to emerald green depending on the light and the viewer's position. Gradually, the submerged forest turns green with new leaves. As spring passes, the snowmelt flows onward into the surrounding fields, nourishing crops, while the forest slowly returns to the land. Was this fantastic forest of water merely an illusion? As if it had existed only as a vision within the mist, the "forest of water" quietly and fleetingly returns to the forest on earth.
